Quick Facts
Upgraded Puyallup’s signal system in the city’s downtown core
Determined that an adaptive signal system was the optimal solution
Results
Supports fluctuations in traffic conditions caused by events at the fairgrounds and heavy rail crossings of Meridian
Our Work
Led Puyallup through the systems engineering process to determine the signal operational needs and the associated system requirements for the future systems
Prepared a complete concept of operations for the adaptive system following the FHWA Model Document for Adaptive Signal Control Technology
Analyzed operations of the traffic signal system in Synchro to determine how to describe the operational needs for the future adaptive system
Used analysis to identify queuing issues, cross-street coordination needs, and potential break points for the adaptive coordination
Prepared the RFP documentation used to solicit proposals from various adaptive vendors
Led the design of the detection and communication improvements
Prepared a fiber optic and wireless network solution for the signal system
Designed new video detection at 17 intersections and designed cabinet upgrades at seven locations
Supervised the acceptance testing of the system and helped perform the before and after analysis
