Signal Design Specialists
Since 1979, DKS Associates has completed hundreds of signal design projects for more than 500 cities nationwide. Our designs address factors such as constructability, signal coordination and preemption requirements, safety, pedestrian and bicycle activity, use of video detection and future traffic flows. Our engineers also evaluate the cost and skills needed to maintain and operate the equipment after installation.
Planning and Design
Our engineers and technicians conduct surveys of existing geometric layouts and equipment, prepare base plans and design proposed hardware including detection and interconnect. DKS develops conductor/ equipment schedules, signal phasing diagrams, project notes, equipment installation specifications and cost estimates. Funding opportunities are addressed in the planning process.
Interconnect and Street Lighting Design
DKS designs traffic signal interconnect using fiber optic or copper wire cables and various wireless communications. As a leader in Advanced Traffic Management Systems, DKS integrates elements such as variable message signs, highway advisory radio and closed circuit television. Our engineers also design roadway, freeway, interchange and intersection lighting, prepare street lighting master plans and calculate illumination intensities.
Construction Assistance
We provide administrative inspection and engineering assistance. DKS engineers attend pre-bid conferences, perform design interpretation, document design changes, review shop drawings, check equipment locations and provide equipment turn-on services.
